Learn more about the Citizenship Program

The Citizenship Preparation Program of Montgomery College, funded by a grant from USCIS through the Department of Homeland Security, is the go to for legal permanent residents of Maryland. We offer two levels of class, from low beginning to high intermediate, and provide students with the English language, history, and civics knowledge they need to be successful during and after the naturalization process. Classes range from 40 to 60 hours long, with various schedules available to learners.

In addition to educational support, the program offers free naturalization legal services. Legal Permanent Residents (green card holders) can receive free assistance from immigration attorneys, contracted from Catholic Charities: This free legal assistance includes help with completion and filing of the N-400 application for Naturalization.

The program serves students from an array of countries, ranging from China to Sierra Leone, and El Salvador to Sri Lanka, representing 60 countries with more than 40 different languages spoken. The Citizenship Preparation Program encourages students to think beyond the naturalization test and interview and look at what it really means to become a citizen of the United States.

The Citizenship Preparation Program was named one of President Barack Obama’s Champions of Change with regards to Immigration Integration President Obama's Champions of Change Come and join our wonderful program and let us help you fulfill your dream of becoming a citizen of the United States of America.
