Mental Wellness
Black + Mental Health + Matters- This World Mental Health Day, join the SHaW Center, Student Life, and Boys to Men as we celebrate the mental health of Black individuals using the artistic expressions of poetry, film, and other mediums. Black + Mental Health + Matters is a workshop that is designed to be a place of refuge for Black students. Knowing that Black humans in America face unique and specific barriers to mental health, this workshop provides a place for Black students to be seen and heard, both collectively and individually. The workshop also connects students with tools to help them thrive and culturally specific mental health resources and empowers them to seek support and heal as individuals and communities. While this event centers Black students, all campus community members are invited to attend, listen, and learn. Monday, October 10 from 4-6pm

The Project Brief: this was an international student competition located in Iceland at the base of a volcano. The students worked on this project as a team advised by Shorieh Talaat during the Spring semester of 2022.
"Buildner, partnered with Landeigendur Voga, was calling for architects and designers to submit designs for a coffee shop that would be located at the base of the Hverfjall volcano in northern Iceland. The proposed facilities would include a new visitor centre and exhibition room to provide visitors with information about the volcano's history. The competition brief called for submissions balancing practical ideas with creative design that is sustainable, unique, and in keeping with the region's extraordinary landscape."
All four students received their AAS degrees in Architecture in May 2022 and transferred to the University of Maryland College Park and Morgan State University to continue pursuing their studies in architecture. A big kudos to the MC Architecture program, Professor Talaat and all four of our winning students on the team!
