Macklin Business Institute

The Macklin Business Institute (MBI) Honors Program provides a collegiate experience that parallels that of the best business schools in the country, bringing together highly talented students with an interest in business. The two-year program is designed for incoming MC freshmen, while the one-year program is for second-year college students. Upon completion of the program, students will have had unique opportunities which will expand your transfer options.

The cornerstones of the program are high-quality, seminar-style coursework with the College's best faculty; honors work in economics, accounting, and other core business courses; managing a student-run café on campus; traveling for regional and national business competitions; and facilitating community-focused projects and workshops. In addition, you'll have opportunities to meet and develop mentoring relationships with local, national, and international business leaders, as well as secure internships.

Professional firms that have recruited Macklin graduates include top consulting firms and Fortune 500 companies including KPMG, Deloitte & Touche, Merrill Lynch, Beers and Cutler, and J.P. Morgan.

Upon acceptance into MBI, you'll receive:

• Scholarship assistance (up to 15 credits per semester at the in-county rate)
• Transfer assistance, including counseling and scholarship opportunities, to top business schools

Modeled on similar programs at top business schools across the country, The Macklin Business Institute Finance Lab will offer valuable finance and business experiences to MBI students and other Montgomery College students. This state of the art, interactive learning environment features an online financial analysis platform tool, individual workstations with industry-utilized technology, and stock market tickers.

A critical component of the lab for MBI students will be the introduction of finance and business simulation software that will lead to relevant industry certifications, credentials, and digital badges for students. These experiences will not only provide additional opportunities for MBI students in terms of career exploration, they will be better prepared for both educational and internship opportunities when they transfer to a four-year institution.

Originally a one-year sophomore-level honors business program, MBI has since grown to incorporate an additional two-year program for students applying to Montgomery College as freshmen. MBI isn't a typical business program. It's an experiential learning program for business students to get hands-on experience in the business world and local community.

MBI was established in 1999 through a major gift to MC by the late Gordon and Marilyn Macklin. Gordon Macklin, the former president of the National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. (NASD), helped create the Nasdaq stock exchange in 1971. Marilyn Macklin was an alumna of Montgomery College. The Macklins envisioned the institute as a place where the values of education, business, and civic responsibility would come together in a creative way to facilitate future educational and career successes.
